Eyes tend to start to look droopy and tired as individuals age due to decreased elasticity in the delicate skin around the eye. While droopy eyes can be a cosmetic concern, they can also cause medical concerns like impaired vision.

UPNEEQ is a non-surgical, FDA-approved eye treatment that lifts the eyelid for a younger-looking appearance. UPNEEQ is a once-daily eye drop that treats low-lying lids and produces immediate results. Surgical lifts were previously the only option to eliminate drooping eyes, making UPNEEQ an innovative treatment to help many patients look younger without incisions, anesthesia, or downtime.

What is acquired ptosis?

Ptosis is the medical name for sagging eyelids and can be acquired due to aging or congenital, meaning droopy eyelids were present from birth. Eyelids naturally lose elasticity over time, which can lead to low-lying lids. UPNEEQ is a safe and effective treatment for acquired ptosis for some patients.

Identifying the cause of low-lying eyelids can be unclear. Experts at Cosmetic Laser Dermatology can help determine if UPNEEQ is right for you and if any underlying medical conditions are a concern before starting treatment. Other forms of ptosis may require alternative treatment options.

How does UPNEEQ improve drooping eyelids?

UPNEEQ is an alpha-adrenergic agonist that contains 0.1% oxymetazoline hydrochloride to trigger muscles inside the eyelid to contract and lift. With one drop per eye per day, UPNEEQ lifts the eyelid for a more open appearance.

What should I expect with UPNEEQ?

UPNEEQ eye drops should be applied to each eye in the mornings for fresher eyes throughout the entire day. The drops work quickly, and within five minutes of use, patients should see some lift for a wider eye and younger-looking appearance. UPNEEQ eye drops need to be used daily to treat low-lying eyelids and can be used in conjunction with other eye drops—wait 15 minutes before applying other drops. When used correctly, UPNEEQ is a fast and convenient way to treat sagging eyes.

What will my results look like and how long will they last?

Many patients find UPNEEQ to be an effective and convenient solution to low-lying eyelids. When applied in the morning as directed, patients see visible results within five minutes. Results vary, but many patients can expect the upper eyelid to lift an average of 1 mm. UPNEEQ is also long-lasting and sustains the eye lift for 6-8 hours.

Results will continue as long as you use the drops. However, this product does not stop the effects of aging, so patients may begin to see other changes in the eyelids that require additional treatment from our medical spa to maintain a refreshed appearance.

UPNEEQ FAQs

Q: Is UPNEEQ FDA-approved?

A:

Yes, UPNEEQ is an FDA-approved treatment. It is a safe and effective eye drop that lifts the upper eyelid for a younger appearance and a wider eye. When used as directed, side effects and risks are minimal.

Q: Would UPNEEQ work for me?

A:

UPNEEQ is used to treat mild to moderate acquired ptosis. It is a non-surgical alternative to an eyelid lift and can be highly effective for patients with a slight eyelid droop. For a more severe droop, surgery or other more effective alternatives may be recommended by your dermatologist. Cosmetic Laser Dermatology works closely with patients to identify why a patient has droopy eyelids and determine whether UPNEEQ is a safe and effective treatment option.

Q: Are there any side effects with UPNEEQ?

A:

Side effects are not common but do occur from using UPNEEQ. Patients may experience:

Inflammation
Redness
Blurred vision
Eye pain at the time of use
Irritation
Dry eyes
Headache

Q: What are my other options for drooping eyelids?

A:

Patients with severely droopy eyelids or patients that want a more long-term solution to low-lying lids can opt for an eyelid lift. In some cases, a non-surgical skin tightening treatment or injectable neuromodulator might also be a good option. Cosmetic Laser dermatology experts work with patients to determine personalized treatment plans. Our experts consider your unique needs and desires before identifying a treatment plan to help achieve your aesthetic beauty goals.

Q: What happens if I stop using UPNEEQ?

A:

Patients that stop using UPNEEQ can expect the eyelid to lower to its original state and not see daily results. Results can only be maintained through proper daily use of UPNEEQ.
