Laser Treatments

If you go for an ablative CO2 laser such as Ultrapulse CO2 or Fraxel Re:pair, you could have stronger, more resilient skin and youthful collagen and elastic fiber stores for up to several years. We generally recommend a touch-up every 5-10 years to maintain the benefit. Light nonablative lasers are more convenient because they have no downtime. But they need to be repeated several times to get the same results as one ablative treatment. And we usually recommend a touch-up every six months to a year after you’ve attained the benefits you want, with those lasers. You need to get more collagen into those scars so that they plump up and become more even with your skin. Resurfacing the skin with Fraxel improves overall tone and resilience. Microneedling helps break up the disordered collagen and stimulate fibroblastic function in your scars, which will vastly improve the look of your scars. For deeper scars, you may need some hyaluronic-acid-based dermal filler and/or a minor surgical subcision, too. Whether you use one laser or two, settings must be adjusted, depending on which problem you’re targeting. For instance, brown spots and spider veins may have different levels of pigmentation and so require different laser settings. There’s no particular age at which you start benefiting from Fraxel or any laser, light or energy-based device. You do not have to modify your lifestyle in any significant way after receiving Fraxel Restore or Fraxel Dual or IPL, or Pulse Dye Laser treatments, as they are non-ablative and do not wound the skin. However, if you have a Fraxel Repair, Sciton Er:YAG, or Ultrapulse CO2 laser treatment, you will have some downtime that may last a few days to a week. Because you may be slightly uncomfortable after your treatment and experience minor side effects such as tingling, burning, slight swelling, or bruising, we do recommend holding off on exercise for at least a day, depending on how you feel.
