PROUDLY SERVING OUR COUNTRY
Dr. Groff graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. in biology and physiology with the goal of becoming a doctor. During medical school at PCOM in Philadelphia, he received the highly-coveted U.S. Naval Health Professions Scholarship Award.
Graduating at the top of his class, Dr. Groff began his postgraduate work and completed a surgical internship at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego. He then attended flight school at the U.S. Naval Aerospace Medicine Institute in Pensacola, Florida. As a Flight Surgeon, Dr. Groff was stationed at MCAS Miramar with VMFA-314 and accumulated over 200 flight hours in the F/A-18 Hornet. He also deployed to the Persian Gulf aboard the USS Nimitz, accruing flight time and taking care of the sick and injured.
After completing a 3-year tour at MCAS Miramar, Dr. Groff was selected into the dermatology program at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego, where he trained under one of the top cosmetic laser surgeons in the world. Dr. Groff spent two years as the Department Head of Dermatology and Laser Surgery at Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan. Dr. Groff is extremely proud of his time in the Navy and serving his country.
DOCTOR WITH A BIG HEART
Dr. Groff and his wife, Stacey, have resided in San Diego for over 25 years and are proud parents of two daughters, Jenna Alexis and Piper Silk. While on his Naval tour of duty in Japan, Dr. Groff and his family fell in love with the Japanese culture and the people.
On March 11, 2011, the Groffs were devastated to hear about the tsunami that killed many of their Japanese friends and left thousands of children homeless. Even today, a decade and a half after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, parts of Japan are still in long-term recovery. Dr. Groff and his family work tirelessly to fundraise and support Helping Hands for Tohoku, an organization that helps those affected by the disaster.
Giving back is a priority for Dr. Groff. To help local children, it is a Groff family tradition to support the Marine Corps by fundraising and collecting toys for Toys for Tots.
In his spare time, Dr. Groff enjoys weightlifting, surfing, snowboarding, and traveling.
